ATHEROS APPROVES GUIDETECH FOR PRODUCTION TEST OF PCI EXPRESS ON
TERADYNE FLEX ATE

Sunnyvale, CA – July 12, 2005 – GuideTech, a leading supplier of precision timing and jitter analysis solutions, announced that its GT4000(TM) Continuous Timing Interval Analyzer (CTIA) system has passed qualification at Atheros Communications, Inc. for production test of the company’s first single-chip WLAN 802.11a/b/g device that incorporates a 2.5Gbps PCI Express serial interface on Teradyne (R) FLEX(TM) ATE platform. This customer validation of GuideTech for production test of PCI Express marks the launch of the GT4000 as an economically viable solution for testing of multi-gigabit serial interfaces in high-volume manufacturing. Integration of the GT4000 will also add onto the current customer base of GuideTech Femto 2000 CTIA systems which are already installed in production on Teradyne FLEX systems for lower frequency applications, such as laser drivers and clock PLLs up to 1.6Gbps,.

“Atheros was the first to offer a single-chip 802.11 a/b/g WLAN for PC notebooks, and we are the first to offer a single-chip WiFi device that supports PCI Express. Likewise, GuideTech is the recognized leading supplier of high-throughput, integrated CTIA solutions for production ATE,” stated David Hu, Senior member of the Atheros Test Development Team. “With extreme price pressures in this WiFi market, selecting a cost-effective test strategy is key to success. So to keep Atheros in the lead, we chose the GuideTech GT4000 for its seamless FLEX integration and its capability to perform very high throughput, precision jitter and functional testing on multiple PCI Express devices in parallel.”

“Over the past five years, GuideTech’s CTIA technology has steadily become the de facto standard at every major subcontract test company for high-throughput PLL testing on high volume consumer devices such as graphic chip sets and cell phone chips in manufacturing,” stated Tammy L. McClure, GuideTech VP Marketing, “And now, Atheros’ validation of the GT4000 performance for PCI Express test and jitter analysis on Atheros’ latest WLAN devices confirms, once again, the critical value of GuideTech’s CTIA technology in the ATE world – this time for breaking the challenging test cost barriers of today’s emerging multi-gigabit serial interfaces.”

“Teradyne customers already benefit from the impressive throughput performance of the GuideTech Femto 2000 on the FLEX platform, for precision timing test in production of lower-end, yet nonetheless, timing-sensitive devices such as PLLs, laser drivers and clock delay lines,” said Jim McEleney, Teradyne FLEX Product Manager. “The additional success at Atheros for this higher-end PCI Express application illustrates that the combination of a GuideTech CTIA solution integrated with the Teradyne FLEX platform provides one of the most cost-effective production ATE approaches available on the market today.”

About GuideTech
GuideTech is the leading innovator in high-performance timing measurement instruments, providing semiconductor manufacturers with the solution they need to minimize timing-related component failure and to dramatically reduce production test costs through test-time reduction and extended ATE lifecycles. Based on patented Continuous Time Interval Analyzer (CTIA) technology, the company's FEMTO family of multi-channel timing test systems accomplishes this by substantially improving test throughput via fast measurement rates, far greater accuracy, increased parallelism, and through critical, high-speed timing test coverage often lacking in ATE systems. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA, the company is the first to deliver cost-effective, advanced timing measurement solutions that easily integrate onto any ATE platform.
